The National Federation of Fishermen's Organisations has announced that it is to begin campaigning to have the recent decision to increase the UK bass minimum landing size (mls) by 4cm overturned. Although the campaign is still to be approved by the executive committee, the chief executive Barry Deas has said that he is confident that it will be approved. The camapign, which will include a legal challenge to the decision will also include the establishment of a fighting fund, and the NFFO are planning to go beyond their membership for support. *** 11 Feb 07 *** The 'Bass Action Committee' formed by the NFFO is to meet with the UK Fisheries Minister, Ben Bradshaw, on the 19th February in a bid to persuade the Minister to overturn the increase of the mls of bass to 40cm, due to take effect on 6th April this year. The NFFO's Barrie Deas is quoted as saying: "We have an absolutely solid case to put to the minister on why he should reverse this increas, based on the science, conservation and the economic impact" (More information on the NFFO campaign is contained in NFFO newlsetters downloadabe at: http://www.nffo.org.uk/newsletter.html ) |
