Fishermen to Avoid Spawning Cod

THE SCOTTISH Government is extending its schemes to protect the North Sea's cod stocks.

As of today (Tuesday), fishermen are being asked to sound the alarm when they come across spawning cod so the area can be closed to fishing.

  • I would like to see what this has done for the stock in real terms as opposed to hearing that the takeup in gaining extra days has been 'excellent' according to Mr Lochhead. The mechanics of acutally getting these small areas actually closed appear to be very involved and long winded in favour of the fishermen over the stock. Watching with interest Mr Lochhead.
