South West Sea Anglers Liaison Group
On the 17th February, representatives from seven SW sea angling federations met at Buckfastleigh to discuss conservation and issues affecting sea angling in the West Country.
It was agreed to form a new representative group (SWSALG) with the specific aim of collectively representing sea angling on a political basis.
It was universally accepted that the catches made by its members in recent years had shown a dramatic reduction in both overall abundance and availability of larger more mature specimens.
Covering the coastline from Bristol around the West Country to Chichester on the South Coast, it was agreed that inshore netting will be the focal point issue for the Federations to progress where this group will be working together to promote this and other conservation issues to ensure that there will be more and bigger fish, that live in a healthy and diverse marine environment for future generations.
It was widely accepted that the voice of sea angling in the West Country was not being heard and acted upon effectively by those responsible for fishery management and enforcement.
