Flounders with Cancer

Aug 19,2006 Leon Roskilly

In the past we have reported on the very significant decline in flounder numbers in a number of places where they were once prevalent, and where match fishing was suffering with very few fish being caught recently.

(see Where Have all the Flounders Gone )

A number of causes have been put forward to explain the almost disappearance of flounders from many areas, from commercial fishing activity to competition with other species for food etc.

CEFAS have recently produced a report that reports that up to 25% of flatfish sampled in some areas are suffering from cancer.

That is worrying.
