DEFRA's Marine Biodiversity team is responsible for marine biodiversity policy, including the Marine Bill nature conservation provisions and transposition of the Habitat and Wild Bird Directives in the offshore marine area.
Within and in addition to this, the team is responsible for policy on marine protected areas, ecosystem objectives, and species and habitat conservation. The team is also the policy focal point for marine biodiversity research, monitoring and enforcement.
