Feb 01,2007 SACN

DEFRA's Marine Biodiversity team is responsible for marine biodiversity policy, including the Marine Bill nature conservation provisions and transposition of the Habitat and Wild Bird Directives in the offshore marine area.

Within and in addition to this, the team is responsible for policy on marine protected areas, ecosystem objectives, and species and habitat conservation. The team is also the policy focal point for marine biodiversity research, monitoring and enforcement.

The team has a programme of meeting with an and consulting stakeholders, details of which can be found on their dedicated website at:

http://www.defra.gov.uk/marine/biodiversity/

(The webpages will be updated with the latest news and policy developments, as they occur. The pages intended to provide a useful source of information on marine biodiversity activities within Defra, and they also provide links to useful research reports and current consultations).

Anyone who feels that they should be involved in consultations relevant to Marine Biodiversity should contact the team with their email address to ensure that they are kept informed of developments.
